Flora Expo Astana has quietly become one of the most international flower events in the region. Ecuador, Colombia, Kenya, China, South Africa, the Netherlands, and of course Kazakhstan itself were all present, and the quality on every stand was seriously impressive.
For florists and buyers in Central Asia, this is the place to see the whole industry in one visit. For growers, it is a direct line to a fast‑growing market.
Alexandra Farms from Ecuador brought a full range of garden roses, and the real story was the fragrance. Every variety smells different, every one of them smells wonderful. A reminder that flowers are not only made to be seen.
Also worth a mention from the rose category the tiny green Gypsy Rose Kiwi spray roses that instantly caught every designer's attention.
Over sixty varieties of Lisianthus in one place. The Dutch Lisianthus collective really went all out, and our own Tiffany van Lenten took over the designer stage with a Lisianthus arrangement featuring disco balls. It really is a party to have Lisianthus in your bouquet, and Tiffany proved it in front of a live audience.
Chic Rainbow Vibe Chrysanthemum from River Flowers, a bi‑colored rainbow painted variety that looks exactly as fun as it sounds.
King Proteas from Fresca, bringing the beautiful nature of South Africa to florists worldwide, including stunning new tones in soft white.
Peonies and ranunculus from Green Works, fresh, generous, and wonderfully scented.
Campanulas from De Waal, a sea of blue with white, pink, and lavender alternatives, opening new flowers day after day. Perfect for events and weddings.
Preserved hydrangeas in every size and color imaginable.
Alongside the Dutch heavyweights like Decorum, Floritec, Green Works, Royal Van Zanten, Bredefleur, De Waal, Lugt Lisianthus, and Love for Lilies, local growers like Astra Fund and Zhuldyz Flowers made a strong case for Kazakhstan as a serious player.
The Open Kaza floristry competition took over one corner of the show with this year's theme set to Galactic. Planets, orbits, metallic finishes, and designs proudly on the creative side. A great reminder of how strong the floristry scene in Kazakhstan and the region has become.
